What is a Gas COC?

A Gas Certificate of Compliance is an official document issued by a certified gas installer to confirm that an LP Gas installation complies with the applicable safety standards and regulations. It is an important document for homeowners, landlords, businesses and insurers.

Regulations

According to the regulations introduced in 2009, all gas installations must have a Certificate of Compliance in line with the Pressure Equipment Regulations established under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Homeowners with liquefied gas installed in their homes must have this certificate, which is usually obtained during installation.

The Certificate of Compliance is important and must be provided by a certified gas installer. A copy of the document may also need to be provided to your insurance company.

LP Gas may not be installed

Less than 1 metre sideways from doors and windows.
Less than 2 metres from drains and air vents.
Less than 3 metres below windows unless a non-combustible roof is installed, while cylinder valves must still be at least 1.5 metres from the window.
Less than 1 metre from the property boundary wall unless it is a firewall.
Less than 5 metres sideways from a switchable electric point or plug switch, including distribution boxes of generators.
With light bulbs less than 1.5 metres above a gas cylinder.
Within 3 metres of or directly under a solid concrete or cement structure where not permitted by installation requirements.

Additional considerations still apply for ventilation, cylinder enclosures, indoor cylinder use and other installation conditions.
